ABSTRACT

This research sought to explore the role of using cypress wood for customizing furniture items for home interiors. To get data for this research, an arrangement was put in place with furniture manufacturers of Gakinjiro. The study used qualitative research to collect ideas, concepts, design views and observations. The purposive sample used 20 participants. These participants answered open-ended questions and responses were analyzed. Random sampling was used in selecting respondents to get distinct ideas. The findings provide evidence that home furniture items made out cypress wood create good look, functional, efficient, durable, beautiful natural home interiors in Kigali. It has been found that using cypress wood to customize furniture items for home interiors in Kigali should bring a big impact by creating good look, functional, efficient, durable, beautiful natural home interiors. Therefore, the Ministry of infrastructure and trade should promote the use of local materials to be used in manufacturing and designing home interior items to reduce expenses incurred during importing of raw materials.
